Hmmm, I think I stopped playing OTB chess when I both started to go to the gym more and began playing Diablo II.

Unfortunately.....not spelt rite.!.lol.the game of chess is hard to master,it takes considerable effort n number crunching to be considered desent. Some people have an advantage by seeing patterns. Ie...I recognise this pattern.this is the best move.lol.less time spent thinking of the next move when you have. Played this game before. Such lovely patterns. Lol,

I started to enjoy chess when I was 25 because of the carlsen-anand wc match! Before that I was never interested in chess and it seemed too complicated to me. Even now I don't have enought time to study chess because it takes so much time to prepare and it doesn't get me any money but I just wished I was into the game when i was a child lol

Why do they quit chess... because they suck.

^ I include internet chess as "playing chess."  I'm talking about people who stop playing chess in any form altogether.  And, I do know quite a few people like that.

Edit: Or, were you answering my later "why do people return?" question?

the 2nd.

Well I will give the right answer. It's because they don't have real interest. There is a difference between having interest and real interest. Take for example, their society might be one where chess is seen so cautiously.

Take me for example, I live in a society where chess doesn't even exist. There is only one guy who can encourage me on that. But I never give up because I have the true interest for the game. Nobody can take it away from me for any reason.

My son and his friends are trying to research this topic. Can you please take 2 mins to share your experiences by filling out as short survey ? It would greatly help the kids in their research.

Here's the REAL reason:

age 5-17- Parents make you play bc it would look good on your college resume

age- 18- gets into college, doesn't have time, plus you already got into college so you wont need it any more. WE HAVE A LIFE TOO!!!tonguegrin
