They just want to have fun, annyway you can't take online chess to serious.
why do grandmaster play one minute games?
it makes mind more sharp and we get accustomed 2 tackle emergency situations in very short amount of time
They don't only play 1 min games -- but when online they're there for fun to play throw away games so why not make it bullet?
GMs play serious games at tournaments, online is BS chess.

How can you say that !!
i started playing bullet because someone in main chat mentioned how easy it would be to cheat in the longer games. i have really grown to love it though it does have problems. some people just quickly make moves even when they are obviously rediculous and end in loss of material and position. it sure is taking me some time to get better at it but i am improving and that is what it is all about for me.also i agree with sakamaka's statement about quick problem solving.

Well, I meant to them it is anyway :) To guys like you and me, we can play competitive and challenging games online. For a professional players though, in comparison to their tournament games online chess is just a distraction... a way to have some fun.
For a professional, of course online chess is not serious, as there is no money in it, and it doesn't count for official ratings. It could be some fun, or at best a form of training.
By the way, it's possible to cheat at any time control. I hear this reasoning about no cheats in bullet often enough I think I should mention it. You can get programs that play faster than 1 move per second for you over a browser if you adjust the settings that way, so just forget it.
Luckily it's not often you run into a live chess cheat (around 1 in 1000 players in my experience). Dont' get paranoid because someone beats you or finds a flashy combination, it ruins the opportunity of online chess for you.
I am aware that it is possible to cheat at bullet time controls but it is still less common, and also this fact is less well-known. If you play blitz/standard it is quite a bit more common; I think that at least a dozen of my opponents have been banned, a few of them after I reported them. Imagine what it would be if I had a title next to my name.
Many IMs and GMs offer tuition online. It may be that being seen to play online, if only bullet, is a form of advertising for them too.
Oh, I haven't played live chess here in 6 months or so -- maybe you do run into a lot of cheaters in the blitz and standard time controls. Well, just because they're banned later doesn't mean they cheated in your game too, but I get it.

If I paid attention to them being banned, that means that I probably had suspicions re my game. (I don't always get around to reporting them.) But in Live Chess they usually get banned fairly quickly.
I don't understand why most grandmasters, or other players of high rating, only play very short games. what is the reasoning behind it?
