why do people play out a lost position to the bitter end?

I just dont see the point in playing out a lost game, its like reinforcing the idea of losing.

Do you understand the concept of suicide??

If it's children, there is nothing wrong with that.

I play to win If I cannot win I resign if we are about equal or slightly losing I go for a draw. I wonder If they possibly do not understand endgame as well as I, or that they are just F$%king with me.

people are not perfect so sometimes they might make a mistake which might allow the other person to come back to a equal position

A little of both I presume. Some people mentally are allways gonna be stuck in the past.

in live chess its ok but in online-correspondence chess is a very childish behaviour .. my last correspondence game is a funny example

a 1700+ with 3 passed pawn and 2 pawn and king vs my 1400ish rating with 2 pawn

and i mange to stalemate

Avatar of Shmuckley

just about all of my winning games so far are good examples of this. Maybe its because Im playing lower rated opponents at first and they dont know any better well I appreciate all your input.

they really should change the rules for stalemate being a loss going either way. a loss for the person with more material would seem just as justified as a loss for the person with less material. I dont really ever draw from a stale with more material so I feel the win should go to the person who created the stale with less material.idk, guess Im just trying to redesign the wheel.

The point is to win those "lost" games! Magnus Carlsen, Gary Kasparov, and Bobby Fischer all did that many times

And if you are asked by your opponent , who has the winning position, to resign.  Your response will always be:

I WOULD RESIGN, BUT THEN, I WOULDN'T GET TO SEE YOUR WINNING TECHNIQUE!!

perhaps thats why Im rated so low. chessmicky you bring up a very good point.

in some cases I think some is counting on people to eventually not be around any more on chess.com or at least quit for some months.

a game ( 3 days ) with 100 moves could last a year or more.

an endgame even though it is winning can take months. if the opponent waits for the last minute all the time.

Avatar of Shmuckley

my endgame is better than all the other aspects of the game so I know pretty certain when Im going to win, but if I was to play out my losing positions I might be able to at least pull a draw. problem is I get so frustrated when Im in a losing position I just want it to be over so Im not reinforcing how to lose.

They're like a chicken running around with no head.

Give your opponent every opportunity to lose their won position.

After all, they have more to lose than you do.

Because it might work out if you're lucky.

I sometimes play on to learn something from a better player.

When there's nothing left to learn I resign.

Not everybody is a quitter in a tough situation.
