Why do people think en passant is cheating?

Of course it does. If someone wasn't expecting something to happen, and it happened, its a surprise! “

Like I said earlier, once you know how the pieces move it won’t be a surprise any more than if you put your knight in front of a rook and the rook takes it, which happens all the time.

OMG dude -stop.  no one is arguing about the rules with you.

You can know all the rules in chess and have a very infrequent thing happen take you by surprise!

Infrequent? The possibility of en passant happening is going to come up in almost every game, maybe multiple times.

It may actually happen less frequently but you should always be aware of it tactically as a possibility in the game.

You seem to be arguing with a ghost who has a different opinion than mine.  Keep at it if you want, or maybe read through the comments again to figure out where and why you're confused.

Point to any place I said where people shouldn't be aware of it tactically.  I double dare you to try and find it.

“Probably because it's always surprising when it does happen. Pretty much (unless a sacrifice) always a surprise, by definition. “

If it’s always a surprise, that means it are never aware of it tactically.

But of course if you actually are aware of it, then you aren’t surprised, and then it isn’t a problem, yes?

I mean I have no reason not to take you at your word if you say you are never surprised by en passant.

Either you lack comprehensive ability, or you're trolling.  Either way, I'm out.  Bye.
