why do players intentionally lose?

I just played a 1380 player who sacrificed pieces to no purpose right in the opening. What is the motivation for deliberately losing?

I just looked at the game, I am wondering why anyone would intentionally lose all his pieces like that.

maybe he wanted to play a tournament but was too high rated.

I cannot explain the moves he made  and a 1380 knows to play better than that. maybe he was drunk.

Maybe....he wanted to let others know he is not good and at the last minute attacks...players do this...to make other players over confident....

I remember playing on my Android and there was no way to resign once I blundered badly.

So quickest way to lose and save time was give all my pieces away.

Or maybe that's how they roll.
