Why do players lose more points from their elo rating than what the game is worth sometimes?

I played this one person today and he had a higher rating than I did. If I won the game I get 10 points, if I lose I lose 6 points I think. I'm sure it is the other way around for them since they have a better rating than I do. I ended up winning the game and all of a sudden I see that this person drops from an 800 rating to a 687 after the game. They lost more than a 100 points from this game alone. This isn't the first time I'm seeing this. Can somebody explain why that happens some times? It never happens to me, but it happens to players that I beat sometimes.

The site uses the Glicko rating system that includes a measure of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. Players with a higher RD value will see larger rating changes after games. Members with few games in a pool or longer gaps in play, will have a higher RD value and as more games are played that value will drop and the magnitude of the rating changes will as well.
