Why do some players abort when I play 1.d4?

Why?

Why oh why?

Hi Kevin, it happens to me as well. The explanation I give to myself, is that the majority of people are e4-e5 players, so they probably want to "train" such opening and not d4.

They don't want to play against it. For example, I avoid players who play the grob and solosky.

But easy. Indian opening is very good defense against 1. d4

I dunno, I play e6 if white plays e4(French Defense) or d4(Hortwitz Defense)

Laaaaaaannnnnndan. No, no.

Hi Andrea, glad I'm not the only one.

It's because it's such a boring opening, the d4 player want to do the same thing over and over and over, playing the same old moves, getting into the same old positions, it's so dull and drab that people don't want to play it. London players are indeed, boring people.

@RopemakerStreet Did you ever consider that your "boring people" are simply trying to learn chess? Maybe they do not even know the London, but stumbled on it by accident? Maybe they have other openings down-pat and just want to learn a new opening? Maybe they are a new player and their coach asked them to practice the London for some educational purpose?

Just because you do not like the London, does not make those who play the London (or learning the London) "boring people". They are just on a different path than you.

When did d4 become synonymous with the london?

I remember I used to hate it when my opponent plays d4. They abort probably because it's more positional.

For all of the folks who abort a game after their opponent plays a certain opening, how does this help you with OTB games? Are you saying that these openings are so simple that you can defeat them with every online or OTB play?

If you play how you practice, then aborting games will not help you (or the other person) get better.

I don't fully understand the motivations of those who abort as soon as they see the queen's pawn moving forward; it seems a bit irrational to me.

I'm still not comfortable with that kind of game either, but it's one more reason to learn how to manage it. The further you level up, the more players start with 1.d4; If you don't learn how to deal with it now, it will be more and more difficult later on.

And then, the greatest champions have played and still play 1.d4 at least as regularly as 1.e4, so it is clear that those types of games are not at all uninteresting, far from it. As I said, these seem to me to be irrational reasons.

I also play only 1.e4 as white, but only because I still don't feel ready for that other kind of game, deeper, more strategic and intricate. But as black I like it when the opponent plays me 1.d4, it's an opportunity to understand something more ( even if I lose more than I win ). And when I understand something more, I'll start playing 1.d4 as white as well.
