Because I started competitive chess only with 14 and without a professional trainer.
Why do YOU not become a Grand Master

My reasons are unknown, maybe the amount of effort, maybe cause there is less then 10% of title players (nevermind Grand Masters) maybe I should ask the few IMs I know why they are not Grand Master although they devoted there life to the game and do nothing but play chess, maybe cause getting a 3 GM norms and obtain a FIDE rating of +2500 will require me to play overseas and I clearly cannot travel overseas. I give up I do not know why.

Give me time, I've only been a premium member for a year and I went from around 850 to 1250, so just three or four more years and I should be ready right?

I could have done it when I was younger, but it's not something I want to do with my life. It would have consumed my childhood, and it's to risky, I need a steady job and to do that, I need to do well in school! (I also enjoy a social life)

I grew up in a rural area in the 50s and 60s, before computers. My only chess book was by Fred Reinfeld, and I was only one of about 3 guys in my high school who even knew the moves. Once the "golden age" of internet chess arrived, I was way way way too old to start serious improvement.
Plus, I have the attention span of a goldfish.

I don't care how good your technique is, a bear or even a powerlifter is too strong to outwrestle if you have average athleticism. Strength and agility matter, technique is how you beat people who are already athletic like you. Calculation is the chess equivalent of athleticism, evaluation function is agility, and stamina is, well, stamina ^_^ Technique matters, but don't neglect calculation, evaluation, and planning. The wrestler may not be as strong as the powerlifter, but technique would come into play since the strength gap wouldn't be that much bigger. Besides the power lifter may be allergic to jump rope or ladder and dot drills

Many reasons:
1. Gave up the game for 25 years
2. Have no desire to put in the time and effort it takes
3. Being 50, and not having picked the game back up til 2009, im perfectly happy being a USCF A/B player.
4. To lazy to put in the effort
5. Lazy
6. I have a nice group of students that i enjoy working with.
7. Did i mention im to lazy to put in the effort?

I'm already 41.
I have to support my family so no money nor time for serious training.
I have other cool stuff to do along with playing chess.
It's just a game.
Maybe if i were 10 i'd think, but at 10 i can think of other cool stuff to do as well, like playing guitar, ride my bike, etc.

I want to know why you; the person reading this forum is not a Grand Master. Because if you have a chess.com account you obviously care about chess and want to do well at it. So why are you not a master?
Chess is just a diversion for me. My priorities lie elsewhere. Also, I may not even have the raw ability; I'll never know because it's just not that important to me

Because I am from mars and I need to adapt to this world.
lol... great answer

I remember when Bud Bundy (Married with Children) decided to become a promoter of rap singers or some such nonsense, and he took the name "Grandmaster B"; maybe it really is that easy
