Originally the piece only moved one square diagonally and used to be a counselor/minister/vizier before being introduced to Europe where some started calling it a queen, along with the other courtly appellations for the rest of the major pieces.
The current power and movement didn't become standard until much later.

I mean back then when chess was created, women were inferior...and still in many countries they are still considered inferior, sadly. (though modern feminists can go to hell honestly).
Anyway, why do you think the Queen was made BY FAR the strongest piece. Why not backward where we must protect the queen?
