Simple, so your opponent doesnt have to sit around for 10 minutes if your opponent gives up and doesnt resign, just leaves the game. These people are terrible sports.

I saw that you lost one of your games like this, for example if the rule wasnt in place and you decided not to come back if you had lost a piece per say, your opponent would have been waiting for 15 minutes.
You see, every time Chess.com gives around 1 minute and 30 seconds if a player leaves the game in midway, why is that so, to make the opponent win? Or is it to make a challenge to make the player get back to the game under 1 minute 30 seconds? WHY SO?
