Why does China have so many great female players?

Seriously?

there are 6 male Chinese players in the top mens 50 and 8 female Chinese players in the womens top 50, so are you asking why the difference of 2 macer ?

It would be interesting to see a tournament between the best GMs and best women GMs.

Well, the 6 men in the top 50 are #13, 18, 28, 30, 34 and 41, and the women are 1, 2, 13, 14, 17, 19, 29, 49. So there appears to be a qualitative difference.
Also, historically 4 Chinese women have been the Womens' World Champion, while 0 Chinese men have played in the WCC final.

Was there any serious female chess before Polgar's sisters? Maybe female field is still less saturated with talents?

macer, those kinds of stats occur across all sports man, somebody has to be top. and in all those various positions ? ffs man! you need to do some brainstorming or 2Q1C and Vladimir will endanger your species.

We got that the first time.

Make than 5 Chinese Womens' Champions in history. And in 2018, either we see a 6th or Tan Zhongyi repeats.

I'll tell you the answer OP. China moves into any void in the sports and competitive world. They aren't going to win at popular stuff because it's a competitive world and in those sports they're behind the 8 ball. Also because Chinese are not super athletic (if white men can't jump, asian men jump even less well). So they go into things where they can do well. Olympic diving, synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, gymnastics, there are many examples actually.

Well... table tennis is different. It originated in China and did not become widely popular internationally, so of course Chinese athetes are going to be dominant in it, just as American athletes are dominant in basketball, Japanese in sumo wrestling, etc. But yes, the point about China "moving into voids" in sports seems to be accurate. The training that Chinese Olympic athletes go through is absolutely grueling, and I doubt that there are many people elsewhere in the world who are willing to endure that much pain and hardship in training for an event that isn't all that popular.

There are surely more young males than females in China: for many years a lot of female babies were killed. When I cruised the Yangtze River for five days in 2001, from Wuhan, upstream through the Three Gorges and finally to Chongqing, I saw at least two dead babies floating in the River. For some cultural groups that was a way of burial, but it was also what happened to a lot of female babies during the one-child policy. It may still happen to some extent with poor farm families that haven't caught up with the great rise in China's standard of living and are earning $800 per year and are alloted one water buffalo by the government for plowing, etc.
well done Lou, it's not easy to not throw a game against a kid.
This kid was ruthless! At one point I offered a draw and he growled "Never!"
