...
I may not have needed to take this post seriously, methinks. My apologies.
Happy Holidays. :-)
I don't see any suggestions that we have an armwrestling match before the game, to decide who will play white ...!
What about 5 round swiss tournaments, some players receive three whites while others receive three blacks. Talk about unfair!
well , gd , never heard anybody asking this quesrion before .we always go on playing whatever color we are playing , its a gd question . well done .i,m glad this question is not coming from a black person the coversation would,ve taken a different turn .
Jeez, this is a stupid thread. Letting black and white alternate who goes first is effectively the same as just switching who plays which color each game. If the side who goes first changes every game, it would be much harder to evaluate positions at first glance.
I think White and Black should play their move at exactly the same time - it'd make the game much more interesting. If both players happened to move to the same square, then first dibs gets it, or if that can't be decided in a fair way, then they go out the back and settle it.
I frequently find that I am playing a black side, I have been analyising many games and more white players win than black. I think this chess rule is outdated and should be reviewed, so black and white start first alternately! Your views on this would be appreciated.
Lol this post is a black white equality post in disguise
Playing black the first game so you play white next game to get first move (X)
Letting black go first the next game so you get the first move (√)
well you alternate normally on chess.com, after most white games its a black game, and the opposite is true too. if you get 2 whites, you normally get 2 blacks or something like that. added on to that, white advantage is not that great either.
coming to world tournaments, contestants play 2 rounds, 1 white, 1 black, with the same opponent. even in small, local tournaments, tournament rounds still alternate white and black
so, although white has an advantage at the start, the player who played white the first round, would play black the second.
everyone has a 50% chance of getting white and 50% of getting black. So it is fair. And if both players play perfectly, it is a draw.
It is just a convention that white plays first. In the times of Anderssen haf of the games black played first.
Playing first does not give an unfair advantage: objectively black is OK and chess is a draw. The path to the draw is wider for white and narrower for black.

No, they chose their favorite color and then they tossed who played first.

Yes that's an interesting suggestion, nobody moves at all! We just sit and have pleasant conversation and after a respectable length of time you both stand up, shake hands, and declare it as a draw; that way both leave with their self respect intact, and an excellent conversation took place, I like it!
