Why should it bother you if the earliest examples of the game that evolved into chess come from India? I remember China's Chairman Deng saying, "It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white as long as it catches the mouse."
China has thrived since his practicality. Similarly, I don't care where anything originated: I'm just happy if I'm able to make use of it.
See me playing piano in my logo? I was taught the highly-technical, efficient, Russian Method of playing piano. I'm grateful to the Russian musicians of the Romantic Era for developing it.
I'm a scientist and have no problem that modern, experimental science began on the Island of Sicily with the Greek, Archimedes.
To Russia, India and Sicily, I'm grateful for piano methodology, chess and modern science. I'm grateful to many countries for food, games, science, math, literature, etc.

actually the one making the positive claim needs to provide proof or evidence for their theory. In America, humans are innocent until proven guilty, but theories are assumed wrong until strong evidence is given to support them.
Modern chess is from India, but the original origins of chess are probably from Greece.

Since we're getting into it chess came form a game called Chaturanga witch was an Indian strategy game. But you don't just develop such complex games over night and the true origins of chess are probably much older than that.

we have a simple proof in Ireland that chess didnt come from India. no need for all that fancy hypothesis testing or false until proven true balony. if it originated in India, the most powerful pieces would have been a big fat granny and a cow.

There is PROOF that chess did come from India during the Gupta dynasty won of the prince died so one of his relatives created the 11x11 ashtapa board then the game went from Persia to Europe and the Japanese had their own variant, shogi and the Chinese had Go and another variant eventually almost every country had their own variant of chess but chess took its modern form in Europe but in France they changed the piece the adivisor( similar of a queen) to the queen the most power full piece it was thought the French did this was because of the powerful female rulers in France. The church got suspicious of the game and advised people not to spend too much time with the game even briefly being banned in France. The first first chess association FIDE was created in Switzerland.
