the point- If you are going to hate on Fischer, why not Alekhine? If you are going to hate on Cheney, why not add Eisenehower, Dulles and Kennedy to the list? The biggest emotion I get from hearing Cheney's name being mentioned is fear of being bored with tired arguments.

What kind of an argument is this? Do I have to list everyone I hate to be able to state I hate Fischer now?

He mentioned Hitler and Cheney just to refute the ridiculous comment of Bigpoison "(How do you hate a guy you've never spoken with?").

It's not an argument, it's an observation.

It's not a 'good' argument, surely. And who knows what you're observing.

sigh. let me make it simpler for you then.

Alekhine supported and promoted the Nazis during the war. He was ostensibly rejected by the chess community afterwards. A screed about Fischer with no knowledge of Alekhine just shows naivety.

LaughingPoor, nimzo5, why does he have to make things "simpler" for this naive little girl?

Why would I have to bring Alekhine into this? You really don't criticize anyone because you would have to criticize everyone? The weight of the entire world rests on nimzo5 every time he makes a judgement about anyoneCry

You find that to be a ridiculous comment, eh?  That's truly sad.  I've only ever truly hated one individual...and unfortunately...I knew him well.  If you can hate someone you've never met, you've got a tough row to hoe.

Your days must be filled with rage and unhappiness.

Well, in your defense, some days are... But I have no shame in that. I think everyone has more than enough sound grounds for such feelings in this earth we live in. In fact, people who don't hate certain things & people surprise me, and then I go on to hate some of them too. (not particularly you, though. peace Smile).

Rene chun had a good article in the Atlantic on Fischer.

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200212/chun

that was seven years ago, and vaguely original then.

What does that article have to do with your statements? Yes, Fischer was a jerk. I know. So why can't I criticize him WITHOUT criticizing Alekhine? Besides Alekhine allegedly being a "double-agent", was he also Fischer? Is Hitler, Dick Cheney? Am I Fischer? What's going on?Surprised

"I said "Who put all those things in your head?
Things that make me feel that I'm mad
And you're making me feel like I've never been born."

Pretty sure Fischer couldn't play guitar like George Harrison.

Do you hate Ted Bundy too ?  I dont know if he said women are stupid or not but he did kill a bunch of em.  Its a sad testament to the world we live in that a guy like Fischer receives more condemnation than someone like Bundy , isnt it ? I dont hate anyone, no matter what they did and certainly dont hate anyone for what they say. Hate is an emotion I try to avoid completely, if everyone did the world would be a much better place for us all.

this thread needs levity.

could Spassky have beaten Fischer at Tennis?

Spassky is a funny guy, in a simul vs a friend of mine, they had reached this position where my friend had blocked up the entire kingside and Spassky had to find how to crack it open and win.

Spassky after a long think, drops the knight from about a foot above the board onto e1 with a thud. "Oh! Disaster," he said and stood up and walked away.

about four moves later we finally got his point.

You're at a chess site. Beyond chess circles, who gives a damn about Fischer. You're starting to crack if you think the world criticizes Fischer more than Ted Bundy.

Well if he could ever get Fischer to play tennis, I think he could even take him blindfold. Fischer doesn't look exactly like a sports guy.

Fischer supposedly was an avid tennis player and bowler..

I dare you to call his foot over the line in either.

I didn't know that. Learning new things every day. Smile

I'm pretty sure Carlsen would take him in a simultaneous tennis exhibition though.

Avatar of nimzo5

Carlsen has an edge in pretty much everything vs Fischer, especially public relations.

Hey, I refer you to this thread:

Spassky was also an avid tennis player (dunno about bowling) but I´d say it´s still a safe bet to assume that their chess playing is more interesting than their tennis.
