Why I can't en passant ?

I'd realized in my several last game I had en passant condition but I couldn't capture my rival's pawn? I wonder there is any system trouble because it never happen to me before. Or maybe chess.com has setting for disabling en passant? any explanation about that?

I would be helpful if you posted a link to a sample game, indicating the move when you tried to execute an en-passant capture.

Well maybe you didn't push your pawn BEHIND your enemy's pawn.

It should have been possible on that last move. It is possible that you had a connection issue that prevented the move before you ended up losing on time.

no, it has often happen to me. that's the last game I found the condition again and there are several condition like that before. I tried to capture pawn until my time's up. Just for make sure it is not connection issue I still can do another movement but not en passant.

that's why I post this on forum because its very confusing. As you know, I even can't do en passant in daily tactics.

VirtualKnightJoakim

If you switch to analysis mode and go a move back, can you do en passant?

You're doing it wrong.

You have to move your pawn diagonally to the square it's attacking. In the example game you posted, you would simply move your pawn to the f6 square and the black pawn will disappear.

Are you doing what Dark_Army suggested? Trying to move the pawn to the square it will end up on? If so, are you on the website (if so, what browser and version) or on the app (if so, device type and version)?

VirtualKnightJoakim

Also, try to take in analysis mode? It is possible that you need to take more like suggested and you can figure that out with trying to take in different ways in analysis mode.

VirtualKnightJoakim

Does it work for you in analysis mode?

Are you trying drag and drop? Or touch the piece, touch the destination square?

VirtualKnightJoakim

I would be curious to know whether you can successfully do this in analysis mode (drag & drop, touch piece, touch destination) or not?

I think you give me good clue, I just tried it, get self analysis mode, and I continue my movement to do en passant. And you know what happen. It's still not working. Then I take another movement,it's no problem. And then I undo move to get back the last position and trying to do en passant again . It's working. So, can you give the reason why this can happen? system failure or something else?

Martin_Stahl

Try clearing your app cache. I can't test your version, since I'm on the beta, but it works there with both methods on analysis.
