Might as well compare chess to fishing tbh.

Not a good comparison.  Fishing requires tools and equipment.  A fisherman's

skills are enhanced by poles, tackle, baits, etc.  In Poker and Chess it is all

human elements.  In real (not on line) Poker, the best player will win over

time.  The element of card luck is not the same in real games as in on line

Poker.

I don't think anyone ever claimed that poker and chess are similar. The main point is simply that the appeal of chess lies in the fact that it's all skill and a whole lot less frustrating than games of chance. Both games are a battle of wits, however.

Interestingly though, there does seem to be some crossover between poker and chess. Both Howard Lederer and Dan Harrington initially played chess before being introduced to poker and I've heard that GMs Grischuk and Nakamura, amongst others, have both started playing poker.

lucky for me ive found a balance with poker and chess.  i enjoy playing both but try to stay away from the the online portion of poker and get into the real tables.  where there is other people to interact with instead of avatars and chat windows.

That is very true. If I get on with the other players and can enjoy a drink, chat etc..it's an incentive to avoid busting out early. Hence I am more careful with my chips.

One thing they do have in common is that I get downright cavalier in both games when I've been drinking.

Come to think of it, every activity I've ever undertaken while under the influence has that in common.

(my apologies to poker lovers)
