Why is chess a sport?

Chess is the best game ever. But what confuses me is that it's considered a sport by the Olympics Committee.

If chess is a "sport" then why isn't it in the Olympics?
(Winter or Summer)

Chess can help your mind to develop. It's problem solving, and moving before time runs out.
Help me understand.

It's because pro chess players only play with those huge sets with 1 foot tall pawns, each weighing 50 lbs. all the way up to the kings which weigh 95 lbs. You try playing blitz with those pieces and tell me it's not a sport.

Yes, it is. Sport is not only physical, but intelectual too. Chess is sport, science and art.
