Why is he/she still playing?
sometimes people resign, including myself. sometimes people require you to beat them into drooling senselessness, including myself. it is just the human condition.

It seems so, much of the time. But someday, in hope for the human ideal, we will be conscious enough to notice when we're peeing down the leg of our own pants and actually stop doing it.

Maybe they want to play to make you prove you can beat them? Maybe they want to experiment with something on the board? Maybe they want to see if there is more that they can learn from that game? Maybe they do it to you because they know it bugs you?
All of these and more are perfectly legitimate reasons to play on till mate, but yet, you haven't come up with one good/logical reason to keep up your whining!
they probably aren't resigning because they know you are terrible and still have a chance ;)
Valid, especially if you go through my games and see how many times I've hung my queen. But I resign immediately :).
I think some reasons given above are actually valid: 'I can still learn something from this game', for example. However, above a certain rating, surely a player has enough experience to realize it's no longer true. A 700-player might still learn while playing down a queen ... but an 1800 (chess.com)? A 1400 USCF should have no uncertainty.

So, if you admit that there are some valid reasons, can't you admit that there might be more you haven't thought of? And if that's true, why bother us with yet ANOTHER thread about this played out topic? Why not at least post in one of the other 100s of threads out there about this?

Hmm...
No comments, we've had enough chatter on this topic. Just games. And don't feel shy about leaving your opponents' names in.
It would seem the OP is quite aware of the proliferation of resignation debates, and did not intend for this thread to become another of those.
