they're good because they're not bad
Why is India so good at chess?

I think there are 3 main reason -
1) Massive population- With a such a large population, ofc there will be good players
2) Influence- I know nearly 100 people from my school alone that play chess online influenced by peers,Anand, Gukesh and ofcoures Levy.
3) Money- If you are an IM or maybe a CM in India you can make enough for a living because of chess classes and tournament prize money.
Hmm, I was influenced by Hikaru as I am a Japanese American, but I was been raised in Japan and I was also influenced by Shinya Kojima

Having the current world champion also helps. I started playing competitive chess after Gukesh won the title for example and I am almost 30 already lol. I can only imagine how many kids have been motivated seeing an 18 year old world champion from their country and how many parents think their kid is the next Gukesh haha so they pressure them hahaha
