Why is it...

... that some folks just log out and force you to win by game abandoned instead of just resigning?  Very irksome!

kco

yes is it very irksome but you won the game anyway, they are being rude, ignored them just don't play against that opponent again.

It's a nuisance. Site needs a nice simple obvious button in their profile that allows complete blockage, they can't accept my challenges, I don't see theirs.

AncientChess

It's very annoying and it sucks. Specially in long time controls. On every chess website you must expect people doing this. I have encountered this situation a lot in instantchess.com, a lot of people do that, thats why i will never play in that site same with yahoo chess.

Meh, it's only irksome if they are holding up a tournament.

Otherwise mentally add it to your won game selection and start another game.

It's not like this a 6 games max website for non subscribers.

limit-on-a-players-max-concurrent-games? Not yet, anyway.

Happened to me just yesterday. I was playing a 3 min game when something interupted me. I had to leave the game and go fix the problem. When I returned, I was out of time (of course) and had a mate in 1 on the board!

I disagree, if I log on with half an hour or so to kill and the intention of getting one or maybe two 15|10 games in its annoying when the first game is won after ten minutes but there's no way to get a second game in because some idiot is running ten minutes of his clock down. Not to mention that you have to sit there with the window open because 9/10 of these people will make a move with one minute to go just to check you're still there and hence cheat you out of the game if you got bored and wandered off.

Is there, in fact, a way for Chess.com to positively distinguish between people who intentionally disconnect and people whose internet connection malfunctions through no fault of their own? I don't know that there is, and that's the one reason I have misgivings about labeling disconnectors.

stone soup logo...nice!

I hate this too. However I don't believe that there is a way to stop it, so we all must just accept it.

I'm sure I've seen mentioned in another thread that something is being done to the software to spot regular abusers and limit them sone way but I can't find it now. anyway it's still happening so if I didn't imagine it then it must still be a wip.
