Why is Magnus so arrogant? He escaped from the conference.

All commentators are cheering for him in the championship. Clapping when he won like Karjakin is the enemy of the all humans.

But Karjakin is the gentleman, i hope he is gonna crush him.

What's so surprising? He's the #1 player, he doesn't need to be humble.

There is a definite bias towards Carlsen not only from media but many chess fans both amateur and professional. I follow many on media and they are absolutely fawning. Almost as if Karjakin had no business being on the opposite side of the board from their Chess God.

To be honest, the games vs. Anand were far more interesting.

Being the #1 player doesn't give you special dispensation for being a jerk.

I may look those games up, thank you. Yes, these haven't been overly exciting so far, though I still expect Carlsen to win.

Maybe the fact that he's the #1 rated player in the entire world, and whose peak rating of 2881 is the highest of all time? How could you NOT be arrogant if you were in his place?

carlsen sucks

I believe it's easy to misunderstand Carlsen's personality. He's not arrogant, he just totally unable to hide his emotions. He would be hopeless in poker. But that being said, Karjakin is really likeable. Karjakin seems to be a nice person. Too bad he don't understand what Putin is doing with Russia. That Putin t-shirt doesn't look good on Karjakin.

Well said.

He looks more natural, he does not hide his emotions. I think it makes him even more charismatic, as he is the # 1.

As #1, people try to see bad things on him where it does not exist.

MC is a young guy after all. We don't need to expect the serenity of an old sage from him.

He doesn't like losing, and it is a pain to act happy, and answer all the anane questions at the postconference. He will probably lose a few thousand pounds for the privlage.

You'd be arrogant too if you were the best. Take a look at the top athletes on the planet...all arrogant, confident and all of that. It is normal.

John McEnroe didn't like to lose, either:

But McEnroe was nasty to people. Brilliant player, but an asshole. Carlsen only blames himself.

YES! An asshole and a true competitor! One of the best ever.

It's interesting how some people can't stand losing. It may motivate them to invest more time and energy in the game, bit it could also be a hindrance.

It strikes me as quite arrogant to judge complete strangers' personality from what little glimpse we get from them in the media. Just sayin'...

On top of being ugly he has an even uglier attitude, because he is influenced by kasparov
