Why is it called after a dried dead fish? It literally means "stick-fish," because it's as dry and as stiff as a stick... Just curious...

The chess engine Stockfish is named after the food "stockfish" (dried fish), a nod to the fact that the engine's creator, Tord Romstad, is Norwegian, and the name was chosen because it was "produced in Norway and cooked in Italy" (where the forker Marco Costalba is from).
