Stalemate, white has no legal moves :)

Yes, I was black and it came up as a "draw".

He has no legal moves but he is not in check. It's therefore "stalemate", which is a draw.

Thanks Dave. I thought was about to checkmate the player, but it came up as a draw. Oh well, I will just keep trying, but with 2 minutes left on the clock I thought I could maybe win the game.

I've drawn many won positions accidentally! It very frustrating, but a part of the game. World #1 Magnus Carlsen himself drew a won position from stalemate in his world championship match vs Karjakin!
So it happens to the very best of us.
I'm no expert, but in those positions, just take your time and make double sure your opponent is either checkmated, or has at least one square to move to :)

Always, baby steps. Instead of 53. ... Qb8 ?? you could 53. ... Rd6+ and king has "escape" route to c7 (with Qb8+ follows) or b7 with Qg2+ (or Qb2+). When chasing the king you need to make sure than opponent has possibility to move any piece, otherwise you producing stalemate, as thefinalDAVE told you. All squares around the king are attacked, yet king is not in check.

Yeah, you stalemated him. But dont worry, it only happens once. The pain of blowing positions like this one will make you not stalemate anyone again happy.png.

It's good to get all your feedback, and that's given me a little more insight. Thankyou everyone.
