Why is this blunder the most popular move 188 to 1 on explorer?

Opening Explorer says that  after Giucco Piano (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5) with white playing 4.Ng5, the most popular move with 188 games to 1, is Nf6. You can even check it yourself if you don't believe me: https://www.chess.com/explorer?moveList=e4+e5+Nf3+Nc6+Bc4+Bc5+Ng5&ply=7&origMoves=e4+e5+Nf3+Nc6+Bc4+Bc5+Ng5

I am aware that after 4...Qxg5 5.d4, you need to give the piece back, but then black is a tempo up, and white has doubled pawns, and that must be better for black than accepting the trap

I think only 1 game continued 4.Ng5 Qxg5. If you look at explorer following the position after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 only 1 game is listed as continuing 4.Ng5 (which loses because Qxg5 and if 5.d4 Qxg2). In the 188 games you refer to with Nf6, this position has been reached via a different move order 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 Bc5 initiating the Traxler counter attack.

Thx @strangemover that really explains a lot

Also, after 5.d4 Qxg2! black doesn’t need to give the piece back but is simply winning.

The game explorer ALWAYS messes up horribly with move transpositions- that's why.

Why the hell would anyone move 5.d4 in that situation? Aside from general stupidity or inattentiveness? Surely castling is the best option.
