Why the hell do the Knights (the guys with the swords and lances) have a horse face anyway when everyone else on the board is faceless?

Nope, that topic is about the real knight as a piece, I was talking about all written texts about chess, by looking the diagrams from Capa, Reti and Nimzowitsch to Kasparov, Silman, Seirawan. All knights look left on those diagrams. I can give book names also.

The Knights just happened to be facing left, and it eventually became a tradition. They would look odd if they faced right now.
So it's a convention. Like a light square on the right hand corner - there is really no difference, but it became a convention.
