This is to discuss why magnus refused to participate in the candidates 2024

everyone share your opinion.

this is the second consecutive year in which magnus refused to participate in the world championships

Is here something fishy going on with the greatest chess player in the world

then why does he have 5 world championship titles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greyflitworth

Watch the interview he did on chess.com's YouTube channel a few days ago. He said he doesn't enjoy the long time control and will only consider playing candidates again if they shorten it.

AND THAT IS THE REASON WHY IT IS FISHY.....!!!!

IF HE DID NOT LONG TIME CONTROLS WHY AND HOW DID HE WIN 5 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

I AM NOT A MAGNUS HATER INFACT I LOVE HIM AND HIS WAY OF PLAYING BUT SEEING THE GREATEST CHESS PLAYER DOING SUCH A THING TWICE IS QUESTIONABLE

It’s not questionable whatsoever. People have preferences, opinions change, and yes if he’s demonstrated his superior play in such events repeatedly he doesn’t need to keep doing it for the sake of others, especially if he has decided he doesn’t enjoy it anymore. He’s been clear for years he had issues with the formats and such and has seen little change. Could his decisions about it put a question on whether he is the greatest of all time? Possibly, time will tell. But there isn’t any conspiracy with him refusing to participate in these events, he’s been very clear about his reasons.

AND THAT THERE IS A PERFECT ANSWER AND IT IS THE RIGHT ANSWER AND HE BEING THE GREATAEST OF ALL TIME IS NOT DEPENDED ON IT

MaetsNori

He's tired of the World Championship cycle. He won it enough times. Has become bored of it.

He's looking for something more interesting and more fun.

I'm doubting anyone wants to join a club with chess.com's most annoying forum poster. Just my opinion.

Alchessblitz

I'm not in Magnus Carlsen's head but at the end of the world championship where he won against Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa there was an interview (normaly we can find it on chess24 Youtube https://youtu.be/v3OpdB3kvOo?list=PLAwlxGCJB4Nejaomo9jNal9iH8YxueOut) and from memory it seems to me that he no longer likes long time games so much.

So in short imo he's probably not interested because the time is too long.
