Don't forget he spelled your name wrong in post #3

Oh, and I wouldn't be underlining any more conjunctions, if you know what's good for you.

How can he help what you underline? Wink

Correction: eugenics, not genocide. English isn't my native language.

ivandh

Eugenics is just genocide into the future, or something like that.

I think it's absurd to ask an opponent to resign under any circumstance. Does this site have thematic tournaments (tournaments where all games start with a certain opening)?

ivandh

I like your decisifve randomness, mr. brinwi wi sir!

Absurd? Why? Yes, it does. Here's the tournament I talked about earlier. Of course, a player who played 2. Nf3 in this tournament, should resign, as he/she by his/her own free will joined it, on the premise that 2. Nf3 wasn't allowed. How can you not agree with that?

cigoL

Here's the initial text of the tournament:

"This tournament is for everyone who wants to toy with various replies to 1. e4 c5, except 2. Nf3. Every game begins at the second White move, and White can play any move he or she wants, just not 2. Nf3

As long as White doesn't play 2. Nf3 it's okay. So everything from Closed Sicilian (2. Nc6), to the wicked Myers Attack (2. a4) is just dandy.

Let's have fun, and see how we can smash Black's Sicilian Defense with White, or brush off White's offbeat second move with a solid Black reply.

Please do not enter this tournament, if you insist on playing 2. Nf3."

kco

Mr Brown is right the person who has set up the tourny should have use the thematic setting.

I was sort of replying to the original post, but I do tend to be ran... LOOK A SQUIRREL!!!

cigoL

I'm the one who set up this tournament. But it cannot be set up, so one particular move is not allowed. Of course the tournament games started after 1. e4 c5. However, is was made very clear from the beginning that 2. Nf3 should not be played.

Niven42

Maybe because we enjoy the publicity?  Tongue out

Seems to me the tournament director is the real idiot here...he has the power to boot the offending player from the event. Soooooooooo the question is...why hasn't he?

And the answer is: the real idiot is the one who assumes things, without making sure first. It's not possible to boot players from the tournament until the first round is over. Of course, the tournament director tried this first, and talked with support about it. That's the answer to your question.

They're OK if used in conjunction with an underline, but just the two together?  That's more offensive than disabling your game chat and using your vacation time combined.

To IMD...:

First, I didn't start this topic to talk about what happened in this tournament specifically, but because I think there needs to be a solution in place to make the site a nicer place in general.

Secondly, the tournament was configured correctly, and (as I said earlier): there is no way to withdraw a player from the tournament while the first round is still in play.
