...because they want to LEARN how to play? Because they enjoy the premium features? Everyone knows how to play.
1. Because chess is a long game (except for blitz and bullet chess) you learn patience and working toward long-term goals.
2. Since your opening play will help you or hurt you later on you learn that actions have consequences.
3. Since you have to anticipate your opponent's response you learn how to see another person's point of view.
4. Since you're making pieces of different abilities work for a common goal it can improve management skills. The first three are from the late Fred Reinfeld, a prolific chess writer.
