But why listen to some rich white girl play a $10,000 grand piano (not to mention another ten grand or more in lessons to learn how to play it) with so much poverty in the world?

Poverty is not about money .

Isn't that convenient for people who have it. Get out of here with that new-age spiritualist crap and actually do something for people who live in true poverty (here's a hint, genius: In basically every first-world country, "poverty" is defined by income), instead of redefining words so that you don't need to feel guilty about taking things like food and shelter for granted. I have. I served in the Peace Corps for four years in Nicaragua. I volunteer regularly with Habitat for Humanity. When I travel, I don't stay in my posh resort for the whole vacation just to avoid seeing how the locals live with so little.

Go see children drinking out of mud puddles in some rural Nicaraguan village, with no parents, no home, and no hope. Then come back and talk about poverty. I guarantee you, Kendra will have no place in that discussion.

Even in the stricktest monestary, the holiest people are permitted recreation time. It's important to maintain our health. Why shouldn't people use some of their recreation time playing chess? I can't see how it can hurt anyone.

Isn't this basically communism?

And no, I'm not saying that to insult someone, but this seems like a thread dedicated to making the world equal on all levels. And by dictionary definition, that's communism.

Now, I know that that's not the connotation, but just bear with me for this one

wilford-n

When it comes to opportunities early in life, we should be communist. No child should have all the advantages over another by mere accident of birth. Education should be socialized. Medicine should be socialized (at least for children of the poor). Opportunity shouldn't be nepotized.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not in favor of a world without consequences for bad decisions. But everyone should have an equal chance to make good decisions, and there shouldn't be any artificial barriers just because someone was born into a poor family. No one should be born suffering the consequences of their parents' bad decisions, nor should they be rewarded for having a famous name. (I'm looking at every Kardashian ever. Worthless bunch of do-nothing trollops.)

Every once in a while, I just want to say "f--- this world" and play some chess.

Point #  1 :   If you are not right with the original solution of this thread probably is because you are a patzer , so you should read the first thread to solve this problem    here    .  if I have never eaten potatoes i can´t say potatoes are bad for my body.

Point #  2 :   I repeat again,  Poverty is not about Money,  Money is an artificial system handled by secret societies from the beginning , sth similar to the three big religions .   Poverty is an state of mind  .

Oh wise one, do tell me how the seven and four year old brother and sister collecting drinking water from a mud puddle in Nicaragua has anything to do with "state of mind." If you can't do that, your only alternative is to stick your armchair philosophizing back up the anus you pulled it out of.

I should not be surprised, considering that you come from Sweden, the Crown Prince of addressing first-world "problems" that aren't really problems. In your country, the cure is invariably worse than the disease.

In any case, Obvious Troll is Obvious.

poverty isnt only measured monetarily ,if you do not have access to the things that make life fun this  could also be viewed as poverty ,

chess allows creative expression normally not allowed in grim grey austerity , and is reachable as a pastime regardless of an individuals worth ,

ive played chess whilst sat in a doorway as a homeless person would you deny me this break from the harshness of that circumstance , matters not the answer btw  id still play anyway

One of the reasons I decided to get serious(ish) about chess is because I expect to be in poverty when I'm older and know I'll want something to do.
