Why Resign?

and you probably forgot how you blundered your queen, you didn't analyze, you dampened the pain of your mistakes, and you will just be more likely to repeat your mistakes than as if you had correctly resigned and analyzed.  grin.png  Plus the rating points you gained will all be equaled out eventually anyway, all you did was spend time with nothing truly gained, so..

Even losing and winning streaks are there in chess.com, right?

yaa we should analyze a lost game but not a resign game in a competition you never know when the game will change in your favour this is my U 18 GAME and i am still 11 y and you know he would know more tricks and tactics then me but i still was able to pull through it

Correct.

sree64

Im saying not to resign. Not the opposite.

Chess is about fun unless you are playing professionally or for some title.  If you have fun playing to the end then do it.  If you're not having fun then resigning is fine.

sree64

Playing till the end is not only fun but a good sport.

We always resign at bad moments. Do you think this is good?

If the position becomes untenable it is the honerable and respectful thing. Those who let the clock run out are the worst. there is an argument for practicing your end game, but when only a handful of moves you resign with honour.

I resign games that I make stupid mistakes in that I cannot salvage. I don't think I learn much from trying to play out a hopeless position that I know where it went wrong in the first place.

Quite correct. Maybe the only reason to continue playing is watch how your  opponent will win and gain some experience in how to win winning positions(not so easy as it sounds). If you are absolutely sure you could easily win it then really there is no point to keep playing.

But why do you resign despite making mistakes, you should fight till the last pawn

Correct.

It's perfectly acceptable for white to resign in this position, assuming black is rated above 800 or so and has sufficient time to bring it to mate.  Even most beginners would be able to beat Stockfish in this position.  So to play on here is just wasting time for both players.

No it is not ! It's boring, time wasting, and disrespectful.

MGleason

Except in fast time controls with time running out, any strong player would consider it disrespectful for white to play on in the position I gave above.  Black has a very easy win.  White is already beaten, and the final few moves are pointless.  Why drag out the loss?  There's no chance of saving the game.

Well, today I asked an opponent whether he would like to finish the game. (I felt, he would surely win in another 20 moves). When a game is lost, I want to give my opponent the choice...

Win in another 20 moves. If i needed 20 moves to beat someone I would find a new hobby.

sree64

What if both play nicely?

Hi all, can anyone please tell me what is the number in bracket indicates after the nick name and why it keeps changing? Is it rating for the player? Kindly explain

Rowdyy-Rahul

What it (bullet, blitz, daily, whatever) means?

sree64

It is the timings you get to play in. For example 5-0 is blitz, daily means 2 hours, etc.

Resigning shows that you are a coward.

Resigning shows that you are a coward.

Really? A loss is a loss. Many players prefer a resignation to a long but wasteful battle.
