Why The Bird Opening is so not recommended in higher rated games?

It appears that my fav op is not played these days so often. I wonder if it is playable.

Almost any opening is playable at almost any level. A book opening will always set up a more less even game going into the mid game.

Bird's opening is completely workable at top level. It's just easy to equalize.

Bird's used to be my favorite, but it was kinda dry and repetitive. So I switched to 1.Nc3

I love it!

It’s unpopular at the highest levels mainly because it, like the Dutch, has pretty much been thoroughly refuted by computers. Computers can’t be caught out of preparation, but people can. It’s so rarely used that if you play it well, you’ll do well because you know the lines and they don’t.

bird's is not refuted. period.

But it is easy to equalize, yes.

I believe that in TCEC and the CCC computer championships, out of all traditional openings, the Bird finished at the bottom with the King’s gambit.

well idk about that.
