just disable audio if you dont like it. A lot of people have the audio for checkmate not because they dont realize it is checkmate but because they like the sound to fill in the silence.

Most people resign before being checkmated.
Most people who allow mate see it coming.
Plus you're not even playing regular chess, it's a varient.
So you're a subgroup of a subgroup of a subgroup... that's why not many people are talking about it.
just turn off audio if you're so annoyed by it
Maybe you have a weak heart.
I play better with audio in bullet cause I have audio recognition for certain noises: a certain click means I’m in check, so when someone tries to flag it’s much easier.

The verbal abuse is in the heading and the body paragraph, where he mentions us as "retarded". Chess.com does not allow abusive language. The five stars up the top mean a swear word.

This is definitely an "I didn't see that mate coming" tilt-post.
(100% cure for that startle: stop trying to win games at short time controls and iterate every opponent move in your head before moving; accept loss on time... or just take off the damned headphones)
But the premise is 100% valid. The slightly louder checkmate sound and slightly sped up piece animation are 100% psychologically harmful.
There should be an option to shut it off, or "theme" the sounds.
It's not a big deal by itself, but if you connect the dots between a whole bunch of weird decisions like this, a not-so-great MLE picture emerges....

Chess.com has one of the worst possible sound effects for a check mate - it is really hard to digest and makes one have a heart attack if it is not expected.
