Look at the game again. Your opponent run out of time, and you had only a king, hence you could not be awarded a win on time.

Is that just a site rule where it's draw if the person doesn't having mating material and the other guy ran out of time?
No, it is one of FIDE Laws of Chess, and as natural as sun rising in the morning.
