also i have experienced people calling me a dumb american, a loser, or just being incendiary when i move or they take my pieces. i can't stand it, but at the same time i don't want to stoop to their level.

also i must say i'm a bit disappointed that i can't curse, even so much to say d am n or s h it. so anyway... not that i want to cuss people out, but that's how i talk to myself regardless.

conversely, i have played against some really nice people from around the world. why can't we all just get along?

Why can't you disable chat, which I do always after a very rude behaviour from a Pakistani. It is shocking & embarassing to know that many Indians were rude to you.  But, one of the reasons for the same as I think is that the number of Indians in Chess.com is the 2nd highest.  So, the number of rude Indians will also be high as rude people are there all around the world.

I think a worse indecent behaviour is to stop playing after playing, say 5 minutes in a live 30 0 game, which I experience sometimes from people all around the world.

I had a rude opponent once (some kid from Sweden) back when I just started on this site. I copied and pasted the exchange to a complaint e-mail and got a fairly prompt reply saying that they have warned this offender.

It is unfortunate that so many people can't "play nice,"  but if enough people complain about them as soon as possible after the event, there may be fewer and fewer of these clowns to deal with.

At one glance of the game, I feel that 16 ...c5 was a mistake on your part and then white should have played 17 R * c5 instead of 18 f4; which was a blunder and probably the most important turning point of the game. Yes, he doesn't look like a player with the rating given as he also made the stupid move of 10 a3 to lose a pawn.

c5 threatened Qxg2#. If he'd played Rxc5, he'd have lost immediately :)

How sorry to hear of your bad experiance.  Well played game and perhaps it was a tactic on his/her part?  I thouroughly enjoy the international aspect of chess.com and most enjoy the chat from persons of India, especially enjoy Isreal, Afganistan, Iran ect. . .  Personally I learned to play at age 5 but schooled quite a bit in jail and rehab's.  So for me an insult or aggressive gesture would mean I was winning, I would open them from that point.  Judging from your game I will be an 1800 in no time! ;)  See Ya'll on the Black and White

Thanks for your reply. So silly of me! Of course, my live standard rating is only 1438 and I am a beginner Smile, so as to miss the bigger picture.

No problem :D

He/She may have seen my beginnerish opening, and lower rating than him/her, and so assumed he/she could play sloppy chess and still win. Not sure that it was a tactic if I'm honest :S

I disagree, the higher the rating, the more unpleasant the person behind the number

Rudeness is not related to rating.

Learn how to disable chat and put people on ignore.

I find the Indians nice towards me. But one group that has it out for me....Iranians!!Yell

Also, I agree with heinzle that the higher the rating, the more of a jerk they are (must be an ego problem?).

It's funny that I have still not met people like that on this site. As I said, that type of behavior is not very common amongst people with higher ratings.

Atos

Actually, my impression is that it is usually upper beginners or lower intermediate players who trash talk.

heinzie

It's the clash of rating classes. The newbie finds the stronger player arrogant and pompous, the stronger player finds the newbie ignorant and silly. :p

heinzie

This has been discussed in some other thread. Wasn't it a guy complaining about IMs and Silman in particular?

They all can be jerks. But from my experience the higher rated ones tend to be a bit more of a douche.

Briaronfire

For example, one time this guy forked my King and Rook with his Knight. And I said something along the lines of "Damn...nice fork." He said quote "S-H-I-T happens." I ignore it for now. A couple moves later I do the same fork on him and retaliated by saying "I hear ya..". He flips. "YOU'RE LUCKY I LET YOU GET AWAY WITH THAT!"

Moon_Knight

I've had plenty of rude opponents. I always starting a game saying hi and g'luck and get mad if you don't respond at all in itself making me a rude player. I don't do that anymore because some people explained to me they can't talk and play chess... But if that's the case shouldn't you disable the chat? I like to talk while I play...

The best way to beat a troll is to become quiet and defeat them on the board. Sometimes in which is impossible because they're that much better than you. The other is like someone previously stated disable the chat. Personally I love fighting e-thugs; I'm usually more clever with insults and can beat them into the verbal ground. xD Plus I find it entertaining. But truly pal you should use whatever works for you.

Please take into consideration that I am 15. Not as old as MANY of you who play on this site. And my advice therefore may not be legitimate because of my "inexperience" and "immatureness". But if I beat you in chess... I guess the young can teach the old a thing or two. ;)

gordymac

do'nt pay them anymind.alot of them type that shit becuase they live on the other side of the globe. if they were in your face they would'nt say a word out of disrespect.

From what you described, it may have been meant as friendly, and not as rude.

Your online rating is in the 1400's. If by "higher rated ones" you mean people with ratings of 1500-1600, then you are not really contradicting what I said.
