Will chess ever be part of the real olympics?

To become Olympic, youll first have to be some kind of 'demonstration sport'. But only some of those demonstrationsports eventually make it to Olympic sports. The problem is... for the next couple games they have already chosen the demonstration sports, so any sport asking to become one now can only be added from 2020+ and even then it may not become Olympic...

Some facebookpeople tried to make Pool, aka pocket billiards, a demonstrationsport but immediatly gave up on this when they heard from someone inside *oooooh* that it will be impossible in the next decade.

I admit that I got excited when I was flipping through the channels on our TV and one of them was listed as "XXX Olympic Games."  Then it was a letdown when I realized this is the 30th Olympiad.

LOL.....

Edit: I just offended myself thinking up events for the XXX Olympic games.

I'd enjoy Isinbayeva doing the Pole Vault even more than normal.

Master_Po

No chess in Olympics . . . yet they have that silly water polo or water soccer, whatever it is.

Scottrf

Water Polo is a brilliant sport, one of the toughest there is physically.

No, chess is not a sport that would fit the Olympics which is about physical skill - whether it be speed, strength, precision or accuracy.  Chess is about mental prowess, and hence does not fit into the Olympics.

Chess is a sport. Just like bowling and billiard, it's a sport but they doesn't include in Olympics medal tallying, they are more likely to be an exhibition game.

Being made an Olympic sport would go a long way to getting chess the recognition our noble game so richly deserves, but so far lacks.

As far as I can see, chess should be considered long before many of the sports currently in the Olympics. This is because chess is an actual competition. This is, the outcome is decided only by the competitors, and not by outside judges.

Chess does require precision and accuracy, and seems to fit into the Olympics as well as poetry and painting did.

Fits in as well as poetry and paiting? So not at all then.  I specified PHYSICAL precision and accuracy.  Chess isn't about physical attributes - it has no place in the Olympics.

China also hosted the World Mind Games, which has just completed recently. USA's Hikaru Nakamura left with 3 silver medals.

Curling....

I notice they have different leagues in curling for men and women. Is there really a gender gap in curling?

There's a gender gap in everything.

Chess should have a tv show, where it follows champions-in-training and what they go through on the road through candidates to the world champion, as well as featuring amateur players who are on the road to becoming GM. Think of the drama! Fox? CBS? MTV? With chess.com ads everywhere! Nike, adidas, you name it!

There must have been at least half a dozen threads started here, all with many contributions, arguing endlessly about whether chess is a sport and/or whether it should be included in the Olympics. The subject(s) has/have been flogged to death and the previous threads appeared ultimately only to gratify those who cannot help arguing for its own sake, whether or not they actually believe what they are saying (many obviously do not). For goodness sake, give it a rest!

And throughout all those threads, there is always that one troll, self-appointed conversation cop, begging people to stop. Knowing full well, it will only spur them on further.

In our case, we have a spaer. He desnt even deserve trolldom.

With respect, I think you're being a bit harsh. I have no desire to be a "conversation cop," but you must surely have noticed that the subject has been thoroughly overdone. BTW, I've always meant to ask, what is a "troll"?

Someone who is more interesting that you and posts funny stuff.

Not until stalemate is abolished, all games are perfect draws, and Carlsen has passed 3000.
