that explains why all these beginners know theory
Will you please get rid of the Explorer link in live chess?

It can be useful sometimes genius. The less you respond to random online posts the happier you'll be

I don’t like the opening data base feature and choose not to use it. It teaches me nothing. Truly, i don’t understand the reasons why this move is better than that move… yet. If i cannot learn and understand the “why” I’ll never really improve. I want to improve but I’m not interested in short term gain in exchange for long term loss.

I'm not talking about getting rid of the explorer as a whole, just the link to it in live games. I'm simply wondering why there's a link to the explorer in live chess....when you can't use the explorer in live chess. Just adding easier access to cheating

Is there a direct problem to this feature? I am confused.
Looking at an opening book while playing is considered cheating
I was wondering why a bunch of 800s have suddenly started knowing Budapest gambit theory
The Budapest Gambit What?
If I have ever played it, it's purely by accident! Closest thing I know to Budapest is how close it is geographically to where Vlad the Impaler once lived. (I just saw a special on him.)
1. d4 nf6 2. c4 e5
Awesome opening (technically slightly dubious if you follow the main main line but i don't care about soundness of openings anymore) to get an aggressive game vs 1. d4

dababy's pet opening is the Budapest Gambit

Is this available on live games too or only daily ones? 'cause if it's available only for the later I believe chesscom team has a pretty clear consensus by now of considering these as mere studying tools (I sent an e-mail once about something similar). And if you stop to think about it 1 - even GM moves probably would get laughed at by stockfish; 2 - even IF someone gets an engine move to play against you, that move considers a whole line (depending on depth) of counter moves of the engine's same precision. yes, that has made cheaters fall flat on their face even against weak players like me. I'd blunder so much the engine got lost lol - and I knew they were cheating after a message from chesscom. they don't specify which player but I had just played a game where I'd kept a really comfortable advantage over my opponent (and that says something, I'm pretty decent when analyzing my games and get shocked when I see how many forks I miss, mates, etc., but whilst playing? ADD is the dominant choice maker lol), than they came with like 4 or 5 winning moves, so yeah, I have a suspect. actually, I think I'll look for the game and challenge them to see how it turns out if they accept.
3 - this one came to me as a shocker. was I really naive for not even considering the possibility? most likely. the ICCF, International Correspondence Chess Federation, solved the problem of cheating with engines with an actual brilliant move when I stop to ponder (and after reading a few GM articles on the subject haha). they just allowed people to consult engines.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

you nearly solved the case completely. I'd just add this feature does not enhance significantly your chances of winning even one game.

The opening explorer is a valuable tool for collecting sample games for specific openings, you can use it to prep against opponents like I did last night when I spent three hours looking at nimzowitsch gambit games to prep against @lightning and then get no french defense players in my three rounds today

if your opponents aren't cheating or GMs then it probably will

yes I've said that
sorry! I'll have to blame ADD here again 'cause I still hope the amount of meds I need haven't 'caused brain damage 😬

Well, that I can't argue 'cause I know it doesn't help me (and even if it did but at the expense of having a realistic perspective of my improvement I wouldn't use it. I'm going to pay the annual fee to join the ICCF as soon as I think I can at least play the little I know but without blundering my queen 1 in every 3 games and I have no intention of using any tools other than books, setting my physical board and stare at it, researching my opponent's repertoire whenever available/possible and things like this. once my irritating lil' cousin who's 2000+ 🙄 pointed out a nearly winning move and I resigned. it literally kills not only the purpose, but also the fun for me), but again, I'm a really weak player, the closest I get to actually being able to form my own opinion on most competitive chess practices is through reading coaches/titled players blogs or asking either lil' cous or pops what they think.

Seems like something you can only make the most of if you have a membership
I've always known chesscom was PTW
I've never used said tool nor when a non paying member, neither after saving for 3 months lol but has anyone noticed differences in such tool depending on wether someone's got a membership or not?
But I have to agree with you and I probably have noticed a few other things but since my memory is really poor I'll just mention one I have literally just noticed and made me upset. I was declared the winner of a game in a themed tournament against someone because they didn't play in time. I literally have to police myself not to spend most of my day playing or even taking a few days off. The thing is I'm a terrible vigilant and what happens instead is that I now have found yet another reason to literally be incapacitated for days (as if I didn't already had enough 🤦 ). But when that happens I don't lose on time because my account is automatically set to vacation, and it made me specially upset because if that wasn't the case I wouldn't be able to play daily games at all due to my mental health conditions and how unpredictably my mood, ability to focus (no, not even lisdexamphetamine can do anything for a brain incapable of producing essential monoamines sometimes) or nearly "function" at all are. I pretty much feel like I cheated. Trying really hard not to let it ruin today because I've just logged in after a short "episode".

If it gets locked please contact me at landermoura@icloud.com and let me know (or here on this very website), because wether or not there are good points to be made for or against the case it would be unacceptable to not let us discuss it. I'd send e-mails to literally every person I could possibly think of that would be able to let us be heard and if nothing helped, I don't even know if a refund is possible (I'd have to read the User's Agreement 5-10 times but that wouldn't stop me) but I'd ask for one and very sadly say goodbye to this website. As much as I know there are several other options I did save an amount o money I definitely don't have to spare because of how much its user friendly interface and most basic lessons help me tremendously. But what actual worth would that have if I feel I'm getting special treatment and having a completely delusional sense of progress given the fact most users don't have a membership? Gosh I'm already starting to feel some type of way...
I don't like the cheating club anyway. Half the posts are public shaming, and the other half is "aM I sUs?" forums. Add in a kid begging for a membership every now and then and BOOM
