Extract from chess.com.

I have the white. My opponent just played the rook and then has abandonned. but he was winning no ? I had to take its rook and then he has queen and rook on my king ? and so why the vertical bar is white , showing that i am totally winning ?

After you take the rook, if they recapture with pawn you just take it (no matter what it promotes to). And then you are completely winning.
