You could use Houdini Engine with a GUI.
Windows to Mac for Chess software
You can run Chessbase products on a virtual machine you just install them with the ...Setup.msi program. You are correct about that.
On the other hand you can do pretty well running native Mac programs and avoid a lot of the hassle.
Stockfish and Critter bot are available for the Mac as native engines. The best GUI on the mac is HIARCS Chess Explorer, Also you can download free programs such as ChessX from www.box.com/chessx or "SCID vs Mac"
I just sent Chessbase an email about this, but I'll also post here in hopes of a faster reply.
I have Fritz 13 installed on an old computer. However, I would now like to have a copy of it on a new Macbook. I know Fritz is windows-only, but that's no big deal because I can install a VM on the OSX machine.
My problem is that I don't know what files I should transfer over to my new computer. I think I just need to transfer the Fritz13Setup.msi program, but I don't know for sure. Has anyone else tried doing this?
Side note: Is this even my best option? I was thinking I could just get a decent GUI on Mac, and put Stockfish on it. Are there any good options on Mac for this?
