Wining on time, guilt and anger.

Definatley no 'continue' option! when playing chess, ones thought process should be efficient and time should be used effectivly. [for a better understanding on this, i recommend reading 'Think like a grandmaster' by Kotov , this is a famous book and i know of players of other 'mind games' (like checkers) who read it] however, we all get caught up in time trouble at some stage, and just have to accept it and manage our time better in the future.
When playing over the board, i usually analyze the game after with my opponents. Sometimes if the position was interesting we would suggest possible continuations, or ideas that we had of future moves and so on. This is good for learning but also allows friendly conversation to meet new people with similar interest. Even if you come out on top afterwards, the result remains the same, but at least you learn that, yes, you were capable of winning, but in future you need to be a little quicker (or at least more 'efficient').
if playing online, i would suggest recording your games in a database with a program like chessbase or something and analyse them later. i wouldnt be worried about beating a particular opponent or increasing rating points, real results will come from analyzing those positions you lost because of your time management. This is much more important than winning a quick rematch because a simple blunder by your opponent or whatever.
By the way, dont feel like the bad guy if you win on time. losing on time is because of poor time management. Although, its not sportsman like to blitz with your opponent if he has little time left and you have an abundance of time remaining.
If winning or losing on time becomes a problem, you may want to reconsider the time control of the games you play. You can play longer games or have a time increment on each move (some electronic clocks allow this, so its not only limited to online play). Furthermore, you can play some blitz games to get used to playing under time pressure.

While I think a "continue" option could encourage more poor time management, it would be interesting to have an option to start a game from a timed-out position that someone else played. For example, if my friend and I decided we would like to see how we would have played from JediMaster and Graw81's hypothetical timed-out position, it could be interesting to have an option to do so.
Also, I wouldn't object to a "continue" option that required that both players agree to the continuation, because sometimes sh*t happens (like a storm knocking down your internet-- been there) in the middle of a really cool game. I think it should be up to the individual opponent on whether or not they forgive an instance of "poor time-management skills." Perhaps only one continue per game, though, so it doesn't become a chronic habit. If it was a button that the lazy player could just hit and get a get-out-of-losing-free card, then I'd be mad.

When I win on time, I am of course like to see my rating inch a bit higher, but I always end up feeling guilty (unless of course someone just waits their time out in spite once they have pretty well lost). I also sometimes get really angry when I have a very good game and time ends up deciding it. Anyone else really wish their was a "continue" option on past time games?
i really like your idea! i think its great, but both players would have to agree first

Why not? It's a competitive game and if you could win you opponent because he didn't manage his time efficiently, and you can use it to increase pressure, why not?

fair point, but... only if your playing best moves. So many times i have seen people blunder and lose because they rushed because their opponents time was running out! That is also time mismanagement.

Yeah, should you try to keep your opponent under pressure by rushing your moves and then making a terrible blunder that loses the game, I think it is only fair for your opponent to have a heartily laugh at you. All part of the fun.

haha definatley! i was going to say that in my post. At tournaments when people are looking at games and someone is low on time and their opponent is playing really fast, spectators are always thinking to themseleves ''hope this guy blunders and loses, or worse gets mated''(support the underdog) ha at least i am anyway.

I have 7 total losses on here. 5 by time out.....3 were clear wins and one I had at least a draw and probably a win(I might have been missing a move) and one I had a clear lead out of the opening. I was called into work unexpectedly and so couldn't get to a computer.
