Winner dragging out a game to be cruel

If you don't like it then resign. I've done it myself because to me it feels like they're delaying the game by not resigning so in my mind if they don't wanna give up in a clearly lost position then I'll mess with them and promote all my pawns to knights or something. They waste my time I waste theirs right

Aren't you doing exactly the same by not resigning? Did you know that there's a resign button, right? One click and the game is over
Actually this happened on LiChess.com. I did hit the Resign flag but nothing happened. But the person who did this had his checkmate set up to deliver they just never moved the rook into position ...they just moved a piece to promote it so I abandoned the game.
Has anyone experienced the obvious winner of a game just not delivering checkmate and trying to drag out the game until the last few seconds? I try to give the winner the opportunity to checkmate but some people just enjoy flaunting their win and torturing the loser. Now I warn these idiots and if they don't stop I just abandon the game.
Have you thought about the possibility that some players have no interest in playing to checkmate? If they are forced to play on in an obviously winning position, then it becomes very tempting to also drag out the game to disrespect their opponent.
The scenario that you discuss shows the one problem of playing on until checkmate. Players with losing positions will always risk running into players who "like to play with their food" once they have a winning position. If this is problematic for you, then I advise you to adjust your parameters of a losing position to one where you have no reasonable shot at drawing and resign when your game hits that point.

This may seem a little evil ( even here I have an impish smirk on my face) but REPORT them. I have done this twice in the same circumstances and it’s always WORKED.

Yup then they get salty when they complain about it
Waiting in limbo while your opponent makes three queens is absolutely unacceptable.
Well your not resigning it's your fault your going thru it so deal with it

You’re going against a beginner chess principle, and even Levy Rozman agrees with it, “Resigning is a bad choice below master level. There is always a hope of stalemate.”

Well don't want to deal with that behavior then resign yes resigning is a bad choice at beginner level but that's what you have to do to not have that happen

Chess players in general are not very nice people, I find them to be quite vile people, given all the chat messages I get.
That's not really a chess thing that's more of an internet thing discord is a good example

I'm pretty sure in LiChess you have to click resign twice, so you don't do it by accident. If you click once, the button will light up for a moment and then go back to normal. You only resign if you click it again before it turns back.
