Winning drawn endgames on time in blitz

I've been on both sides of these absurd time scrambles. As players use premove, draw offers are often accidentally refused in the rush to avoid losing.

Any time you play a game with a sudden death time limit, bet it 1 0, 5 0, or even 60 0, you face the possibility of ending up in a "race" position where both sides just move as fast as they can until someone's flag falls. If you don't like that scenario, don't waste time complaining about people who play within the rules, just refuse to play in those kind of games. Playing with an incremement, even a small one, avoids those ridiculous time scambles and lets you keep playing chess all the way to the end of the game.

Which is why I never use an increment.

If you enable premove you can move with no time debt. I use it  when my opp. is trying to win on time, or when I have a particular opening down pat, to save time. It is annoying when an opponent is simply trying to win on time. Especially when you have a far supperior position, however, it is the rules so it is justified and fair.

Sorry I know this is a bit old, but... I don't think this is true on chess.com.  I believe the premove increment incurs a time penalty of 100ms (0.1s) from your clock.

As far as the blitz conundrum, I don't see a problem of playing for an advantage in this position.  Of course premoves won't help you (unless there is one where any of his moves, regardless of how silly, won't result in a disadvantage for you), and if you've reached a drawn position with unequal time, that implies your opponent may be able to outplay you (if they had used the same amount of time as you, perhaps they would have found a way to gain an advantage).  I have arrived in positions where my opponents were at advantage and I played for a time win because they spewed time on calculating overly complicated tactics.  I find this to be in the spirit of timed chess (esp. blitz and bullet), since it is a different kind of game.

That being said, with 30s vs 90s in a dead position like that, I would definitely accept a draw offer up time, unless I knew my opponent would not in the same position (if we had played a lot before), or if I knew my opponent was weak in their endgames.  I might test it for a few moves to try to discern if they had weak endgame form if I had never played them.

It is what it is.

I've lost these, which makes me think ill of my opponent. I've also won these, which vindicates my better time management.

It is what it is.

Truth depends on one's point of view.
