Winning on time

So I guess we all win sometimes on time.
Last month I have been seeing good improvement in my chess, online modus. Live modus not so much. I find that most people here don't want to play 45/45 60/60. Anything faster and I can minus my online rating with 300 points.

But tonight I found myself lucky. Someone was looking for a 60/60 game. Since I also want to see my live rating go up, I accepted!

It was a exciting game, we seemed pretty equal most of the game with 2 major attacks in the game. The first by me, the second by my opponent.

I do think I had the edge at the last part of our game, but he didn't manage his time well. In the end I won with 15 minutes on the clock left and he timed out.

It left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. I would have loved to finish the game without time control. Because he was making mistakes due to time pressure.

His last move with 0.1 on the clock was putting his queen in front of my king. I took the queen and his time was up.

Not the way I like to win.

How do you guys/girls feel when winning a casual but rated game on time? I know it's (a big) part of chess, but still, if I could, I would have stopped the clocks.

Hmm, you were up a queen and a rook at the end.  I guess you felt like he still had some chances if you blundered (?)

Also it was 60/0 not 60/60 (I was wondering how someone would lose on time in a 60/60 game).

BTW the 2nd number means increment i.e. after each move your time is increased by that many seconds.

Ah you are right wafflemaster about the time. Well I was up a rook and down a bishop for the second half of the game. In return he had a good attack going on my kingside. I only was a queen up the very last move. His last 8 moves I think were done on great time pressure. He had seconds left while I had about 20 minutes left I think at that point. I am sure he would have played those last moves much better if he had more time left.

That is why I didn't like winning this one. We were of equal strength and I was enjoying the game a lot.

A club may not be available near you, but one thing I like about playing in person is that in interesting positions you can say, ok, I lost (or won) but lets play it out to see what would have happened.

You can also go back to earlier positions and ask your opponent what they planned if you had done something different which can be fun and a good learning experience.

Yeah as a kid I was in a club (quite succesfully too, better than I am now, won a lot of tournaments). Problem is, I would love to go to a club, but I have agoraphobia, so it's not so easy for me nowadays :(

But I agree, that would really be nice. Might be something the staff here one day will implement. Offer to stop the clock.

If you like longer time controls, joining this group might help: http://www.chess.com/groups/home/world-standard-time-control-chess-club-365-days-a-year (not sure how well it works, haven't found the time yet myself)

I love to win someone on time over the board. I often stand up when I'm in time trouble and smash the clock. Then of some reason my opponent strangly begins to think more. After I start to smash the clock haha
