Has anyone read the following? What were your thoughts?

Lasker’s Manual of Chess (it has been revised and updated with AN)

Chess for Match Players by William Winter

A friend of mine who is an Expert recommended these two. He said the Lasker book is a bit basic (maybe to him). He said Winter's book really shaped the majority of his chess career (it is out of print but can be found.)

Do you have it?

NO , I have A book of his my Grandfather bought but its all beat up from the test of time. If you wanted to find A book like that I would start on the internet checking out chess wharehouses   or go to A live tournament and ask if you can post what your looking for on the bulletin board next  to were they post the pairings .   Good Luck finding it.     :)

I already bought it, due to my friend's recommendation. I haven't read it yet.

I am curious what people think about the Winter book and the Lasker book.

I have Lasker's manual of Chess. I use it. I have not read it wholly. Lasker's writing style is verbose. He is capable of great insight, but usually uses far more words than are necessary for his point (or the point is too oblique for most readers, or too deep).

The Winter book is from the 50's or 60's. Not in AN, which is good to know. However, as I said, it shaped my friend's chess career. More advanced than Lasker's book according to him.

There are other books I want to read first, but I'm just curious.
