Won on time
I have a better idea, lets profit on their pinkness>>>
Why don't we have a button where the king can move twice once a game just to avoid checkmate? $1/month
How about a button for sending your opponents flowers? Why, what a grand and lovely idea? Erik, you could link to FTD.com charge an extra 15% and put that in the R&D fund for the Pink players?
How about watching Judy Garland movies as they play: $4/movie
All this additional revenue and maybe the site will go public we all can buy shares and be billionaires? Pinkchess.com, all the whiners I am sure would love it...LOL
A whole lot of repressed homosexuality being expressed here.
"Chess is war! I'm a manly man!" etc...
Its amusing.
As for losing on time, I think you accept when you start the game how long you have to make a move, so if unforseen circumstances mean you miss a game you just deal with it, its not exactly the end of the world. I don't really see the need for including an option to extend the time, you might as well allow a "take-back move" option for when players' hands "slip". In any case, it would cause more problems than it would solve.
most people who timeout end up timing out on ALL of their games. if you add a few days, then that just delays the inevitable in most cases.
also, premium members get automatic timeout protection :)
Let me start by saying that I'm new to this site and I not sure I've correctly understood the site's legislation, but the rule seems to be that when you're opponent doesn't move in time, he automatically loses, without you even interfering. I don't think that's the appropriate approach for the site. I feel that I should have the option of not claiming. Let me explain why.
I play the game very casually and I sometimes forget to move for a week, otherwise occupied. I have no hard feelings towards players who take the game more seriously than I and immediatly claim when I time out, but against opponents who are in it for the fun of playing (or winning on the board, as in my case), I feel there should be an option to continue, after all all involved consent (by assumption).
With regards to a specific criticism I remark that there is nothing principally weakhearted about not claiming time-outs (which is not to say that a frailer constitution is not often the reason for it). I enjoy in chess very much the humiliating of the opponent, but I prefer to do it on board. I simply have no fun claiming time-outs. I sincerely wish all who do the best of luck, but I am not one of them.People seem to be misunderstanding the point of this thread entirely. No one is saying that if you time out you shouldn't lose. What people are saying is that if you time out, your opponent should be able to decide whether you lose or not. This isn't a premium option.
First of all, this doesn't affect anyone, except those who want to use it. So I can't see any reason why anyone would be against implementing this.
Secondly, for those who want to play chess casually (myself included), it makes sense that someone would want to give their opponent more time, especially if it's a rare occurance, or in the middle of a particularly interesting game.
Personally, I would like to see this implemented. Maybe that's just because I enjoy ponies, the color pink, flowers, rainbows, and sensitive emotions
Personally, I find that to be very slow and boring. Usually, I only play games on 1 or 3 days per turn.
That's part of the reason I would like this feature. I wouldn't let my opponent take 10 days for each move, but if I'm playing a 1day/move game and my opponent went over time once or twice, it wouldn't be a big deal to me, and I wouldn't mind playing to the conclusion.
I see nothing wrong with having that option on unrated games.. and those who wish to play "just for fun" can play unrated games. But to say it doesn't affect people who don't want to use it is a bit naive.
This thread and many others on the forums stand as proof that there are many who whine when things aren't as they suppose they should be. I personally am loathe to take a win on time, but I'm not anymore keen on granting my opponent more time. I would never use it. I would never grant it except with unrated games, and probably on with friends, and I would never ask for it to be used in my benefit. But surely there would be those sending me messages and posting my name in the forums that I unethically did not grant them more time even though they crashed their car and were detained at the hospital getting their ruptured spleen removed... etc.
Unrated games.. i'm all for the option, rated games??? I'm glad administration at this site see the reasons why this is a bad idea.
We dont all play chess to improve our ranking do we? After all it is only a number and does not mean much. If you feel bad about your ranking going up after a timed out game why dont you thow the next game to lower it agian?
Maybe the easy option is to give the winner of a timed out game and option to call it a draw if they wish.
I don't see why people just keep repeating the meaningless pink mania instead of simply thinking and considering it. I don't see where it has been stated that they wanted something to stop THEM from losing on time. The request was simple. Allow the player who doesn't want to win from a timeout to GIVE more time to his OPPONENT and this as a PERSONAL choice, guess what? This means you don't have to do it, and if someone complains because you did not do it for them, then you politely ask them to screw their thumb where the sun doesn't shine. End of story.
This mean that if you don't care about how you win then just let it be and you will win on time. If however you are interested in the game, for which ever reason and wish to continue it even though your opponent is running out of time, you can allow him not to time out by giving him more time for that move.
It also means that since this is a personal choice you should not whine if the opponent does not return the favor to you after you have helped him. You chose, you live up to your responsabilities and face the consequences.
Do you want a similar example of this? If there is a threefold repetition, it is your choice to claim or NOT the draw.
Speaking about Pink and stereotypes, may be you guys should get the pink membership as a bonus seeing how it is you who desperately whine. My sympathy to silentfilmstar13.

I'll take the ever so subliminal hint :)
I have a solution. Let's just all play only unrated games. That will solve a lot of problems. No worries about rating. Why resign because it's just for fun. No worries about a bad move because it's unrated anyway. No worries about vacation because it's unrated. It's just for fun no winners no losers. Take back moves because it's unrated.
Are you insane???????????? I am joking, this is chess not 1st grade. There are winners and there are losers. If you can't handle it consider chalk art where you can always use an eraser and have do overs.
