I didn't win one, but was given one quite unexpectedly by another member on here. Didn't even ask for it! One year membership.

I think you made a post saying you were not sure if you would renew, or something like that. I enjoyed your presence on the forum and was feeling extra charitable that day. Smile

Man if i had 6 months my game would really improve. When i had my Diamond membership things started making more sense as i took a look at my games. Had the chance to see where i was going wrong and what i was doing correctly.

Having that Diamaond membership is better than buying a book. Not only did i find things i was doing i found players that had a similar style to mine and studied their game which help me improve quicker than a book. Maybe not as good. No way you should be bad after 3 months.

Plus the option to create tournaments so you do not have to enter one where players hold it. You can invite you wish to enter the tournament. Hey for that i ask which windows do you want me to clean?

I like the videos more than books too. I am slowly giving up on chess books... they are so dense...

Avatar of royalbishop

Everytime i pick up my Silman book i know more but move way slower and stare at the board. I put the book down and find all kinds of creative moves to give my opponent headaches. I am an instinctive player so when i bought his book i knew why i was making good moves.....kinda wish i stayed in my ignorance as it felt more fun and less work.

I think a lot of it is how a person is wired.    I can't stay awake during a chess video.  I like the interactive nature of Chess Mentor.  (back when I was a premium member).  And my chess mentor experience influenced how I interact with chess books now.  I try to make most books interactive.  Seems to help.

But again it all boils down to how someone is wired.  A lot of people prefer visual (ie: video) learning.  I prefer interactive reading.

Not just for chess.  I am a musician by trade and instructional music videos tend to make me lose my interest.

Avatar of DrCheckevertim

Funny you mention that. I am also a musician, and am finding that I prefer instructional music videos over books. I like reading conceptual stuff, but when it gets to being very detail-oriented and micro-analytical, like so many chess books (and music books) tend to be, I get really bored. Smile

I agree. When i used to tutor students in math i put the book down and make the material relate to eveyday situations. It was funny how a subject that seemed impossible for them to learn to them became easy. Helped a couple people get their degree from college as that was the only subject holding them back.

Very nice, it was good to share. Congratulations!!
