worst type of opponent to play against

If I could choose to only allow requests for mouse slips then I would likely accept them, but I don't want all the other spurious requests so unfortunately for my opponents who make mouse slips they just have to accept them as part of online chess.

Definitely.  Being used to chess.com I didn't ralise lichess had takebacks when I played there until someone requested one.  I still won the game, but my immediate thought was "what is the point in us playing this game if you are just going to ask for a takeback when you make a bad move".  Needless to say after that game I disabled takebacks.

I don't mind takebacks, but only in obvious mouse slips. I have granted two so far, never had any more requests though :)

i've had mouse slips before as well and now i almost never click and drag the pieces. i click piece and click square i want to move it to. much safer ;)

I've made numerous accidental moves by just clicking on pieces and squares, forgetting that it makes a move by doing that!  I hung my Queen by doing that once and resigned immediately.

On Android devices it doesn't really matter, when the display decides to malfunction, it makes slips regularly :)

I would try some crazy sacrifices to make the game more fun.

i will totally do this sometimes when i'm just fooling around on live chess.

worst opponents are the Elvis impersonators, especially when they don't look or sound a bit like him.

if you both ended up with the same material in endgame, he couldn't have been making unsound trades. a player who made thoughtless exchanges, as you imply, would not have survived your methodical play.

Well sometimes it's obvious that your opponent mouse slips or had a bad touch moment on their phone/tab. If you have a great game that both enjoy, then the takeback is actually quite nice to have.

question: is it strange for me to think that a chess forum should generally have better behaved members than other forums? i guess i kind of assumed chess would draw a more intelligent and open-minded group of people predominantly, but i guess i'm wrong.

i have more people blocked on this forum than any other one i have ever been on, and it's not even close.

You should try the tennis forums.  A really cesspool.  I was surprised.

Yesterday I was the worst opponent happy.png  I restricted my opponent for more than 2 hours before I won  a pawn with force and gave him counterplay. That pawn won my game in the end.
