I'm sure I would stand at least 25 moves against Magnus, and I'm a mediocre player.

While I'm absolutely without sufficient credentials for my view to matter, I personally am of the opinion that Magnus has a much stronger opening repertoire than he is normally given credit for.

I think his approach is more like Lasker or Petrosian than folkss like Anand and Kasparov and Kramnik -- he's not looking for a novelty to spring on an opponent and win, he's looking for a position that is psychologically difficult for his opponent.

And more often than not he seems to achieve that.

If you give magnus 1 minute, he beats anybody on this bloody site.

Nope, his opening repertoire isn't crap. It's perfect for him, trying to get positions where he can outplay his opponent.

waffllemaster

If you've seen any of his time odds games he still plays the really aggressive stuff against noobs (noobs being anyone below 2500 lol).

You'd be completely lost before move 20 Laughing

In your dreams!!!!

Maybe someone can hold 20 or 25 moves, but after this ... what ? Magnus will win anyone under (let's say) 2200 easily !!!

Honestly, I don't think that surviving 25 moves against Magnus would be that hard. All one would have to do is steer the game down a very theoretical line and you are already nearing move 25, if not past it. After that, the game may be short, but then again, if your playing someone 1000 points higher rated than you it should be.

Just because Magnus avoids popular and critical variations in the openings, that doesn't mean that his opening play is weak. If it were, then players like Anand and Kramnik would crush him.
