would you watch blitz on TV?

I noticed that you watch poker on TV.   What do you think about blitz?

I think this idea will work because the games are so fast and somebody can add commentary.

savy_swede

I think blitz games would be to fast for someone to commentate on or for me too follow myself.

something at a medium length time control of like 30-40 minutes would be grate

of course I would be grateful to see any chess on tv

No blitz but on 1h,1h:30 min,2hours it would be great.Example:

World Chess Championship should be in every country on TV.

Oh, I think that would be absolutely spectecular. And then with these super-enthousiast chess-commentators who make you feel like you're watching a football game. :]

I would watch Chess on TV, regardless of the time controls.

I would love to see any chess on TV - at any time control.  Some countries do show some (I think Norway do occasionally), but it would be fantastic in the UK and USA.

I would watch for sure. If blitz, maybe there could be betting too like in poker, where White decides the opening but in doing so it costs a certain amount of chips! ex. Elephant or Latvian gambit costs a little while Najdorf Sicilian costs the most or something, and more costly to have start position further into a book line. That would be awesome! \m/

Of course, more 'correct' chess should be on tv for sure, games by Anand etc.

oh dear... I'm a nerd, a geek, and maybe even a loser... but I would NOT watch poker OR chess on TV.. yikes.

So much for chess on DVDs then!

mineta
I think chess DVDs are very interesting.

I don't think an announcer could add commentary because he prolly wouldn't know what's going on either.

I think a good announcer would be a strong chess player.  If they are playing a long live game, then she can briefly analyze the position.

I wish there is chess on tv. G15 would be great for me, but really any time control would be fine. Moves could be briefly posted on the screen, so after tap[ing it could be studied later.

I would love - and not just because of my nationality - to watch the Anand-Kramnik match on TV. It would a great boost for chess and might be a precursor to blitz being shown, which I would watch. Currently, we do get some chess on TV, with some national tournaments being shown. But they show every match for a few seconds each with some agonizingly drab commentary. It would be great to watch some quality chess with someone like Eric Schiller commentating.

Haha That would be great!  Though I don't think BLITZ chess shoule be on TV. The players dont even know whats going on let alone an announcer!
DukeRebuke
Kasparov vs DeepBlu was on TV, unfortunately it did not get much publicity.

Umm...I'm sorry, but who in the world would hire an announcer who knows nothing about the event being covered?

To all of the people who say no to blitz on TV, I think you need to realize that the general public does NOT share your obsessive views about chess. The success of chess on TV is questionable to begin with, but televising long games would be a sure loser, since nobody other than chess geeks would watch. Blitz, on the other hand, would be much more likely to pique the interest of the average person. Remember, people have short attention spans and enjoy fast-paced activities. I've played both blitz and long games in public, and there is definitely more interest from passersby while playing blitz.

Maybe you don't know what's going on during a blitz game, but that doesn't mean that other people don't.
