Good trolls aren't supremely obvious.

Sorry to avoid the op trolling,  but I am interested in the the idea of 'team' in this event. USA are doing great, does it matter in the slightest that nakamura,  so and caruana are rivals?  They aren't playing each other so I don't see how it would cause problems, maybe I am missing something

Problems arise when ego gets in the way. my only concern was how Naka would feel being on board 2.

America will take the chess gold like they beat everyone in Rio!!!

My point was that the US team are a collection of individuals rather than a team.

No shared training sessions, no working together per se, nothing like you would see from the Chinese these days, etc.

So while the games are individual, the results are not. Chemistry can play a role, and often does.

Just lucky for the US that it's not setting us back.

DamonevicSmithlov I'm not sure why you would think Naka would cause friction rather than one of the others?

We're talking about a collection of serious egos here.

Those are stupid trolls some group of people use to promote, referring to the real trolls like "Type two trolling" now that was a stupid and ridicule attempt to "troll" and keep the forums "fun".

Well, see, now you just gave yourself away as a TrollU dillweed.  Nobody else plays the slightest attention to that type 1/type 2 trolling crap.  It was invented purely as a (poor) justification for bad behavior, and is entirely meaningless.

The Filipino citizen seems to be doing very well for the USA Chess Federation.

Seems like Italy+Philippines+Japan+USA is doing well.

Of course it's based on ignorance.

After all, is anyone talking about the Ukrainian on board one? Nope.

Never have I heard of more complaints about anticheating policy.  some people are complaining that there is NO checking and now others like Nigel Short, furiously upset for being checked.  there's something bizarre about this- surely cheating is an issue Every Olympiad, wouldn't they use the same procedures?

: curious.

Fabiano Caruan and Sam Shankland were both born and grew up in the United States. So did Ray Robson, except that he was born in the US Territory of Guam. All three of them were American citizens by birth. I believe the same is true of Nakamura, who was born in Osaka, Japan, to an American mother, which also made him a citizen at birth. Wesley So, is an immigrant. This persistent claim that Caruana is really Italian, or that Nakamura is Japanese, are based on ignorant spite and corrosive envy

Not to mention simple racial prejudice.

Krush just defeated Kosteniuk, so USA wins the double match overall.

You know they aren't going to give you a trophy if they won, do you?

Does anyone know why Azerbaijan gets to have threes teams?  Is it because they're hosting the tournament?  It seems odd.

Yes, that's the reason.

Is this really the only major discussion thread going on about the US team at the Olympiad leading the field?  How sad is that?  How many troll threads are running right now?

Better not to know.
