Hi, my pawn was adjacent to opponent’s pawn. In 1 move, it killed my pawn and moved one step diagonally ahead.

How is this possible? Move was gxf3+

Learn the rule en passant - if a white pawn is on the 5th rank (the 6th rank for black, and blacks/whites pawn moves two squares on its first move, white (or black) can take the pawn as if it had only moved one square.

This rule was invented by the French after the rules were changed so pawns could move twice on their first turn, the name translates to ‘in passing’.
